No Winter Maintenance Rally - Sept 27 2014

Hosted by SPDA-online.ca with the assistance of MLRC and KWRC members

The Event:  We had a fun day out in Grey County! The Flying Spatula restaurant again hosted us throughout the day and provided some really tasty sandwiches for lunch. Was anyone brave enough to order the Meat Platter for dinner??  Fifteen teams joined us for the sunny, dry drive north-east of Flesherton Ontario. Fifteen cars entered the rally and met Trevor's challenging route (and notes) head-on.  We also enjoyed having a 1977 Toyota Corolla performance rally car briefly join us for the event!

Our VolunteersWe are grateful to the volunteers who made this rally happen! Martin Loveridge, Steven Van Rees, Peter Wong, Paul Henshall, Kerry Labiuk and Ted Doig gave their Saturday to help get you through the highlands and valleys of Grey County. Without every single one of them, we'd have had to drop CP's.  Thanks folks!

The Results:  In expert class, Bruce and Jane (Subaru Impreza) placed 1st for the fourth year in a row!  This year, brothers Guy and Ryan  (Chevy Sonic) finished first in Intermediate running the same notes as Expert. The employed the flawless strategy of being the only team in their class to execute the win!   In Novice, Gary and Phil (Toyota Tacoma) finished first novice with a mere margin of 0.7 minutes.  They were one of five novice teams that made all of the CP's throughout the rally. Alex and Liisa (Ford Fiesta) finished first in touring with a margin by a good margin over their first time competitors.

Melanie (navigator in Leg B) and Mike (Navigator in Leg A) in Car 4 won the Cool Competitors award. Rallying with your partner is a challenge on it's own. After more challenges in the first leg, they switched seats at the lunch break to see if Melanie would do a better job with navigating. I won't say that she did, but 83.6 in Leg A with Mike navigating, and 8.7 in Leg B with Melanie navigating. I'm not judging. They left with smiles on their face, and for that reason, they are our Cool Competitors for the event with the highest score of any team that finished the rally.

All of our first and second place finishers received $20 off Ultra 94 gas, courtesy of SPDA sponsor Petro-Canada.
